Introduction


As a lease-operator with Steele's , your purpose is to help us provide exceptional pick up and delivery experiences to our clients. You will be compensated with a base + commission pay structure. This position falls under Steele's Transfer Ltd. which is our local trucking business.

Steele’s Transportation Group is a busy freight transportation business who arranges and completes between 1000 – 1500 shipments each week. These shipments are for a wide variety of business types and our customers are across Canada and the U.S.A. Our local courier and trucking business known as Steele's Transfer has been serving Alberta since 1957.
Our primary purpose is to pick up and deliver our customers products with safe and timely trucking services. 


Position Overview


As a Lease-operator at Steele's, you will provide a tandem day-cab tractor that is well maintained and no more than 7 years old. Ideally it will be white in color. You will be assigned a variety of trailers to pull including dry vans, heater vans, pup trailers and flat decks and you must have verifiable experience with all these types of equipment. Based in Calgary you will be assigned loads of LTL and FTL to pick up and deliver as planned by our dispatch team and this could take you throughout central and southern Alberta as well as local work in and around Calgary. This is mostly a Monday to Friday position with some occasional weekend work. Typically you will be home every night too.
You will provide your own WCB account. Steele's will provide plates and insurance to qualified drivers along with ELD equipment. You will be issued a company fuel card and the fuel costs will be a charge back and deducted at source. Pay structure is commission of revenue.

Experience
  • Minimum 5 years accident free driving of commercial vehicles in Canada
  • LTL freight loading and unloading and delivery

Expected results

We expect our drivers to be reliable and competent workers. You must be on time and able to share the roads following all the laws without compliance issues while keeping your truck maintained to prevent break downs. You will secure all freight for safe transport to prevent damage to products and inspect all freight before loading to identify risks to protect the company and yourself from claims.

Cognitive ability

You must be able to problem solve as you are working and keep track of your actual weights being loaded to ensure compliance. You must also be able to navigate using truck routes to go between locations and identify when shipments you are loading do not match your instructions as dispatched so you can report them to your dispatcher.
